Applying Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
How to Paint with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
STEP TWO: PAINT
Apply Dixie Belle chalk paint with a light hand — less is more. Invest in quality brushes like Cling On or Staalmeester, choosing one large enough to achieve a brushless finish. Mist your brush and furniture lightly with water to help with a smooth application. Paint in smooth, even strokes, working methodically across your piece without applying too thickly. Allow the first coat to dry for 20–60 minutes, ideally at room temperature; cold or damp conditions will extend drying time.
Once dry, apply a second coat and leave to dry completely. Multiple thin coats deliver a smoother, more even finish than one thick application. Between coats, wrap your brush in foil or a damp cloth to prevent it drying out. When finished, wash brushes in lukewarm water and occasionally use brush soap or conditioner to maintain soft bristles.
Dixie Belle Pro-Tips:
The paint is naturally thick — a little goes a long way. The longer the lid remains open, the thicker it becomes. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add a small amount of water and stir. Too thin? Leave the lid off to thicken. Dixie Belle adapts to your preferred consistency.
Most pieces need just one or two coats for full coverage. After the first coat dries, the finish may look blotchy — this is normal. The second coat will transform it beautifully.
Brushstrokes may be visible while wet, but they'll disappear as the paint dries. Dixie Belle's self-levelling formula ensures a professional result.
